It was built in the 19^th century and was the private chapel of the house of Father Luís António da Cruz, located on the street that today has his name, but which was called of the Carreteiros until the beginning of the 20^th century.
The portal of entrance is surmounted, outside, by an inscription in Latin that means "Who does good, was born of God".
Of small dimensions, it has a single altar and a sacristy. In it is venerated Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception) and there can also be found images of São João Batista (Saint John the Baptist), São Francisco Xavier (Saint Francis Xavier) and São José (Saint Joseph). All of them are from the 18^th century and are presumed to come from the Monastery of Bom Jesus. The holy water font, dating from the 16^th century, might have been recovered from an older religious building.
In the 1930s, the chapel received some benefits by the hands of artist José Basalisa, time when it received the baseboard, with panelled tiles in blue and white. The ceiling is painted with naturalistic themes, ornaments, tiles representing vases with flowers and medallions, and in it appear Marian symbols. The main altar is made of stuccos and applications of gilded woodcarving, and has a glazed niche where the image of the Patron Saint is venerated.
It had a religious service with daily mass until the 20^th century’s 1970s, assured by the Institute of Piety and Beneficence’s chaplain, an institution that operated in the building where the chapel was inserted between 1848 and 1979
