Built in a rural area of ​​the village, in the exit from Viana to Alcáçovas, at an imprecise date that we suppose to be the first half of the 17^th century, its founder is unknown, as well as the reasons for its construction. Túlio Espanca declares that it was founded by municipal initiative or contribution and that it underwent restoration at the end of the 17^th century, paid by the Council, but he does not indicate on what bases he made these affirmations.
In 1894, according to the same author, it was ceded by the Council for the evening drawing course of the Industrial School Médico Sousa, with an attendance of 47 people. By that time it will have already lost the sacristy and other annexed outbuildings and, after 1910, the steeple and the cross above it.
Already in the second half of the 20^th century, because of the village’s growth, with the construction of the new neighbourhood of Altinho, it is now surrounded by urban areas. It has a rectangular plan, with a main chapel preceded by a round arch adorned with rhombuses in relief. It has a square plan and is covered by a half spherical dome from where a cylindrical lantern appears. The altarpiece is a work of masonry and has a niche where the Patron saint was once exposed.
After disaffected from cult, it was abandoned many years, having served as warehouse, until it was restored to serve as a funerary chapel, as it is being currently used, besides having a religious service once per month.
