Cineteatro* Vianense

A successor of the cineteatro (Theatre) existing in the former Vianense Society, it was inaugurated on Palm Sunday of 1949, and its construction was due to the private initiative of Jesuíno António Simões, landowner and local farmer, who paid for the work. The project, of Alentejo-inspired architectural style, was designed by Bernardino Luís Coelho, an architect from Viana - also the creator of the plinth that supports the bust of António Isidoro de Sousa - and its construction was tasked to Amável da Costa, building contractor. The sound and projection devices were supplied by Philips Portuguesa S.A.R.L.; the electrical accessories by J. Roma and the chairs and maples, modern at the time, by Manuel Figueiredo, from Santarém.
The opening ceremony included a speech by the mayor and a show featuring documentaries and a film: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947).
Having changed owners over time, it was acquired by the Town Council, undergoing rehabilitation works that allowed its reopening in 2005.
It is a venue of architectural expression and size that stand out in the panorama of similar buildings existing in the surrounding area of Alentejo.

* A theatre were both films and plays were displayed.
