Hermitage of the Holy Spirit

The hermitage of the Holy Spirit is mentioned in the document Memórias Paroquiais (Memories of the parish) of Alcáçovas, dated 1758, as well as in the document Breves Memórias da Villa das Alcáçovas (Brief memories of the village of Alcáçovas) written by the priest Joaquim Pedro de Alcântara and published in 1890.

It used to be located near the Paço dos Henriques and was demolished in 1861.

Its cultural functions were then transferred to the chapel of São Luis (St. Louis) of the parish church and the liturgical instruments to the Association of the Parish.

An ancient grave of António de Miranda de Azevedo, who died in 1550, was also transferred to the chapel of St. Louis.

This date leads us to assume that the hermitage would date from the 16th century.
